ABOUT US

Regional Transportation Planning Organizations (RTPO) are state-designated entities with responsibilities established in RCW 47.80. In this capacity the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization (PRTPO) is responsible for ensuring on-going coordinated transportation planning amongst its members and identifying long-range issues or opportunities affecting the region.

PRTPO was first established in 1990, under the administration of WSDOT Olympic Region. In 2019, PRTPO was redesignated as an RTPO independent of WSDOT administration and is operating under its own leadership and organizational structure since July 1, 2019.

PRTPO’s organizational structure builds on and strengthens the intergovernmental partnerships and cooperative relationships established over decades of working together to meet mobility needs of the Peninsula region. The region’s 27 members include four counties and nine cities, four transit agencies and four port districts, five Indian tribes, and WSDOT Olympic Region. Kitsap Transit is the Lead Planning Agency and Jefferson Transit is the Lead Fiscal Agent for PRTPO. PRTPO members work collaboratively across borders and government sectors to support mobility of people, goods, and services today and in the future.

Details on PRTPO membership, organizational structure, and operating policies can be found in the PRTPO Resource Manual, available in the sidebar.
